Active Play on a Budget

Hear – See – Do Activity
Help kids hear the message that physical activity can be fun!
Let them see simple games in which to be active.
Let them do by organizing an active play game.
Use in P.E. class, for afterschool activities or community youth programming.
- 2 paper plates per person
- a hole puncher
Punch 2 holes in each paper plate, one on the right, one on the left, each about 2 inches from the edge of the plate. Use string to pull up through the plate and use as a shoelace. Fasten the skate plates onto shoes or stocking feet by tying the “string shoelaces”. Many variations of skate plate can be played including:
- Relay races
- Obstacle course skates (trying to beat your own time)
- Skate to music
- Skate tag
- Double skate relays (2 people skate together with arms linked)
- Create your own idea
A shoestring budget activity for any age from HKC’s Setting Up For Success booklet.
