Healthy Kids Challenge Workshop Happenings
April 21, 2011
Our most recent Healthy Kids Challenge workshop focused on incorporating fun, healthy nutrition and movement activities into after school programs in Kansas City, MO. The directors and their program staff chose to make a commitment to following best practice guidelines for healthy snacks. Director feedback about the Snack Attack training was enthusiastic!
“My kids will LOVE the recipe ideas and the games you’ve shared with us today!”
“This was well worth my time and something I can take back and implement easily!”
“On a scale of 1 to 5, this workshop was a 10 plus!”
This week Healthy Kids Challenge school workshops are taking place in Sauk Village, IL, near Chicago. Next week we’ll be training teachers and staff in Dickinson, North Dakota.
You know the saying, “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” It has been said that our “train the trainer” style of interactive workshops inspires teachers and youth leaders to take action for not just a day, but for a lifetime. Our workshops are anything but the ‘norm’-you know, the one-day, lecture and note-taking kind. When teachers, administrators, and youth leaders experience the Healthy Kids Challenge “train the trainer” interactive style, you find them participating in the very lessons and activities they will be leading in their schools and programs.
Think of the “fish” as new knowledge, a new skill, or new ability. Not only do you come away with something “new”, you understand how to use those things most effectively in your individual situation, and practice using them in the context of what you do every day. First we raise your awareness for the need for nutrition and physical activity with compelling statistics and real-life examples. Then we show you how to incorporate nutrition and activity into classes and across the school environment. And then we train you how to do it yourselves by practicing during the workshop with concrete lessons that last long after the workshop ends.
