At Healthy Kids Challenge we talk a lot about balancing the food you eat (calories in) with active play every day (calories out). It’s no surprise that the Dietary Guidelines picked balance as a key message. “There’s no quick fix. It’s all about calories in and calories out,” US Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said after announcing the release of the 2010 Dietary Guidlines.

Of course the details of increase these foods and reduce these foods are there in black and white in the policy document. For now, let’s just let this blog post celebrate the emphasis of the Dietary Guidelines on enjoying healthy balance!
