Girl tasting berries on her Walk Through the Pyramid

We’re in Chicago this week stirring up some edu-tainment at the Taste of Chicago in Grant Park.  Del Monte helped make it possible for us to offer not one, but two fun family events this year!  Walk Through the Pyramid runs all day in the Family Village; plus our popular cook-off Ready, Set, Cook, and Eat on the Fun Time Stage on Thursday, July 1st.

Last year over 1000 children and their families enjoyed a “taste” of health at the HKC Walk Through the Pyramid™.  This year we will again help kids get excited about healthy food choices and reward everyone with a WTP bracelet.  The bracelet reminds WTP participants of the food groups, color codes, and their goals for making healthy choices in each group.  For parents and leaders, our R.D.’s are there to: 1) help answer basic questions to make it easier for them to make healthy food and activity choices, 2) to involve their kids in the process and 3) to do this on a busy schedule, with a limited budget.

The Ready, Set, Cook, and Eat cook-off will feature Del Monte fruits and veggies with quick meal ideas.  The teams are made up of 3 kids and 1 adult each, and are given a grocery bag of ingredients with which to create their healthy meal.  Three teams will stir up some healthy fun!  For details, click here.

What is your favorite Healthy Kids Challenge event?  How can we make them even better?

“Your teaching messages with fun and action are wonderful! What a great way for our family to learn about the food pyramid!”  Participant, Taste of Chicago 2009
