Healthy Breakfast Foods

I’d like to continue our healthy food ideas with breakfast this week. Do you know you’ll burn more calories between 8 am and noon on the days you eat breakfast than on the days you don’t? That’s the magic of metabolism – that’s your Breakfast GO Power working! Do you also know that people who eat breakfast eat fewer total calories throughout the day than those who don’t? And best of all, breakfast eaters are more successful at school (or for adults, at work) than those who aren’t getting that daily dose of morning GO Power.

My #1 goal for Breakfast GO Power? Choose foods from at least 3 MyPyramid food groups, and do it every day. My favorites include:

Whole grain waffle with fruit and yogurt topping
English muffin with peanut butter and banana slices
Yogurt, fruit, and granola parfait
Breakfast burrito (made with peanut butter, applesauce, banana slices) and low-fat milk

    A healthy breakfast and quick favorite of mine is to microwave a scrambled egg, top with grated cheese and tuck into a warm whole grain pita pocket. Add a glass of juice and you have 4 groups of the MyPyramid to help start the day!
