White House Kicks Off Summer Exercise Series on the South Lawn
May 31, 2010
Healthy Kids Challenge (HKC) supports the White House Summer Exercise Series and joins in with our simple, every day, evidence-based solutions.
Last week as a part of her “Let’s Move” campaign, First Lady Michelle Obama initiated plans for summer activity on the South Lawn to encourage kids to exercise more. She participated with groups of 8-10 year olds to do stretches, squats, lunges, planks and run various obstacle courses.
To show kids different ways of getting the recommended hour of daily exercise, the White House plans to invite local children, sports leagues, community programs and coaches to play sports and other activities on the South Lawn throughout the summer.
Join along with the “Let’s Move” summer exercise series! Use the idea to enhance your summer youth programs with fun physical activity! Encourage kids to take home ideas to get their families moving too!
Healthy Kids Challenge encourages healthy movement everywhere kids live, learn and play! See our kids activity booklets and a best practice classroom example linking nutrition and physical activity that can be used in a youth program setting, Queen and King of MyPyramid.
Share the ideas you have for summer physical activity for the kids you lead. Let us know your thoughts!
