What do you do to make sure you eat smart-sized servings? Healthy Kids Challenge knows that mega-sized packages at the grocery store and restaurant serving sizes make it difficult!

SEEING a proper food serving and remembering its size is a helpful skill to develop for healthy portion control. Consider the following mealtime tips:

  1. As you look at the meal plate before you, divide it into 4 quarters.
  2. Fill one quarter of your plate with a grain such as rice, pasta, or bread.
  3. Fill one quarter of your plate with an entree or protein food such as fish, meat, beans, and possibly dairy.
  4. Fill up half of your plate with colorful veggie and fruit options.

Not only will this method provide a healthy variety of foods, but will help you develop healthy serving sizes and balance of food choices.
