What do you do to make sure you eat smart-sized servings? Healthy Kids Challenge knows that mega-sized packages at the grocery store and restaurant serving sizes make it difficult!
SEEING a proper food serving and remembering its size is a helpful skill to develop for healthy portion control. Consider the following mealtime tips:
- As you look at the meal plate before you, divide it into 4 quarters.
- Fill one quarter of your plate with a grain such as rice, pasta, or bread.
- Fill one quarter of your plate with an entree or protein food such as fish, meat, beans, and possibly dairy.
- Fill up half of your plate with colorful veggie and fruit options.
Not only will this method provide a healthy variety of foods, but will help you develop healthy serving sizes and balance of food choices.
