Simple, Healthy Tools for Parents and Families

February 4, 2010

Healthy Kids Challenge heard that Wednesday, Michelle Obama was interviewed on the TODAY Show about her childhood obesity initiative. She emphasized that parents need help with simple, accessible solutions to make better food choices. To support her comments, Assistant White House chef, Sam Kass, showed students from Bancroft Elementary School in Washington, D.C., how to prepare a quick and healthy meal in the morning.

Healthy Kids Challenge has those simple, accessible solutions!

One example is our Stirring Up Health™” National Middle School Recipe Contest.

The contest gets 7th and 8th graders involved in basic cooking skills, and helps them develop healthier eating habits and set healthy goals. Chef Sam Kass showed students how to prepare a quick and healthy meal. The Stirring Up Health™” recipe contest goes a step further to allow kids practice creating tasty, healthy food themselves!

It’s not too late to enter! If you work with or know of 7th and 8th graders, share the following information that helps kids work toward healthy change while having fun! E-mail, blog or tweet your contacts to get the word out!

See the Stirring Up Health™” Web pages for information and details. View the          entry form which can be submitted online or mailed.
