Eat Your Colors…..of Fruits and Veggies!

September 12, 2009

Remember to eat your colors of the rainbow with fruits and veggies. Color categories are red, green, yellow/orange, white, and blue/purple. Healthy Kids Challenge has some fun ways for you to get your kids involved in eating more fruits and veggies.

1. Let kids help plan the colors for the day. Preschoolers will love learning their
colors and eating them too!

2. Have kids keep a rainbow chart of colors eaten that day on the refrigerator.
Proudly display their artwork, and talk about how your kids are helping
guide healthy change for the entire family.

3. Consider fresh, canned, frozen and dried for a wonderful rainbow of color, as well as nutrients! From raw baby carrots to a fresh apple, fruit cups, and celery sticks, most can be a ready made grab and go for meals on the run, a backpack lunch, or a midday pick me up snack. Del Monte, a Healthy Kids Challenge Partner in Health, is a great resource for healthy mealtime solutions with fruits and veggies.
