Fruits & Veggies: More Really DOES Matter

September 3, 2009

Why so much conversation about eating more fruits and veggies? Fruits and Veggies, Every Day the Tasty Way is one of Healthy Kids Challenge six healthy messages. The reasons for so much fruit and veggie chatter seem almost endless! Fruits and veggies add so much flavor, appeal, color, variety, and health benefits to any meal or snack plan. Seems simple, but, where to start?

Our team at Healthy Kids Challenge recognize how challenging it is for families to eat healthy these days. Busy lives require simple, quick meals made easy. Planning is the key. Keep a grocery list and make weekly trips to the grocery store. Avoid those rushed stops after work that end up in extra dollars spent and frustration with “what are we going to eat tonight?” thinking.

Using that grocery list, keep a well stocked pantry, refrigerator, and freezer that includes a variety of fresh, frozen, canned, and dried fruits and veggies. Check store specials, encourage all family members to participate in the fruit and veggie planning, shopping and preparation too!

Consider signing up for the Healthy Kids Challenge free E-challenge of the month, My Healthy Challenge. The September issue offers challenges focusing on eating more fruits and veggies because……more REALLY does matter!

I agree! I also think it is smart to have the kids pick their favorites to add to the grocery list-makes them buy into eating more of the green stuff 🙂
